Kind Clinic South Austin location to open fall 2020

Texas Health Action (THA), an Austin-based nonprofit that advances sexual wellness by providing health care in a safe and supportive environment, will open a new Kind Clinic location in south Austin this fall. Kind Clinic—a medical care program of THA—is the largest sexual health and wellness provider in Central Texas with no out-of-pocket costs to patients. The new location will be the first Kind Clinic to have an in-house pharmacy, allowing patients to leave their appointment with medication in hand.

Through Kind Clinic, THA is the first nonprofit in Central Texas dedicated to providing access to the HIV prevention drug PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) at little-to-no cost.

“Less than five years ago, a small team of passionate community members and medical providers combined forces to open Austin’s first clinic to provide PrEP,” Christopher Hamilton, chief executive officer of THA, said. “Since then, our community has grown immensely, increasing demand for sexual wellness services from providers who are culturally aware and understand the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ people and allies. We are proud to expand these services in our hometown of Austin.”

THA’s new 6,550-square-foot Kind Clinic, located at 2800 S. I-35 (Fountain Park Plaza III), will double the organization’s capacity to provide access to HIV prevention drugs, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, HIV testing and care for people living with HIV, and gender-affirming care. The new location will also expand capacity to train physician residents for psychiatric, internal medicine and HIV specialty care.

Additional services offered at all Kind Clinic locations include vaccinations, an on-site lab and access to on-site patient advocates. These advocates help navigate prescription and medication management as well as challenges to accessing health care, including referrals for mental health and other services.

With locations in central and north Austin, Kind Clinic strives to provide sexual health services to all members of the community with special attention to LGBTQIA+ people and allies regardless of race, creed, gender expression or sexual orientation.
