THA is seeking a Phlebotomist/Lab Tech, at our Central Austin Clinic, to assist clinic operations by performing phlebotomy and processing lab specimens. This role will report to the Lead Lab Technician and the Clinic Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with patients to acquire blood and urine samples as per physician orders
  • Phlebotomy and lab specimen processing, urine reagent analysis, preparing, labeling, and submitting swab/urine samples to external labs
  • Performs lab technologist and/or phlebotomy services during clinic hours of operation
  • Assists Lead Lab Technician in observation and supervision of phlebotomy and lab volunteers/trainees
  • Work with Clinic Coordinator and Lead Lab Technician to maintain clinic policies and procedures that reduces the quantity of “insufficient” and “unsatisfactory” lab specimens received by external labs
  • Utilize and promote infection control measures and universal precautions to maintain high quality of health and safety during clinic operation
  • Help Lead Lab Technician perform medical supply inventories
  • Ensure well-being of patient in the lab
  • Maintain a system of confidentiality according to clinic’s policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines
  • Fosters teamwork within the clinic

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
  • Must work effectively with physicians, staff, volunteers, and patients, as well as community partners
  • Adept at acquiring and processing lab specimens
  • BLS and Texas Phlebotomy Certification within 90 days of hire (if not current at time of hire)
  • Will complete company provided OSHA, HIPAA, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training within 10 days of hire
  • Must work effectively with physicians, staff, volunteers, and patients, as well as community partners
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse work staff
  • Ability to deal effectively with stress relating to the changing organizational, personnel, and healthcare environment
  • Comfort with issues related to substance use, harm reduction, homelessness, mental health, gender care and LGBTQ communities
  • Must demonstrate good communication skills, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years direct patient care experience
  • Familiarity with testing performed in KIND Clinic’s CLIA-waived laboratory
  • Experience in STD clinics, working with patients on sexual health
  • Experience in community health settings
  • Experience in ambulatory settings
  • Experience in internal medicine, primary care, or infectious disease
  • Familiarity and experience using a trauma-informed approach to working with individuals
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
